How do your programs fit into an NDIS plan?
Our programs sit under Capacity Building – Increased Social and Community Participation and Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living. Where a support worker attends, sessions may also be accessed under Core Supports – Community Participation. We work with support coordinators to ensure full alignment with participant plan goals from the first conversation.
Is this music therapy?
No. We are not a music therapy service. Our programs are classified as music-based capacity building — structured creative engagement that builds functional skills, emotional regulation, routine, and social participation. We don't use the term "music therapy" as we are not registered music therapists. This distinction matters for NDIS compliance and funding.
Can you help justify funding to our support coordinator?
Yes. We provide program descriptions, outcome frameworks, session documentation, and progress reports that speak directly to NDIS Capacity Building language. We're happy to speak with support coordinators directly to answer questions about how our programs link to participant goals.
Is the Music Production program one block or two?
Music Production runs in 10-week blocks. Block 1 covers foundations — beat making, sound design, DAW navigation, and your first arrangements. Participants can choose to stop after Block 1, or come back for Block 2, which goes deeper — more advanced production techniques, mixing, mastering, and completing a full track. It's entirely up to you. Each block is its own program and is enrolled separately.
Who is eligible for these programs?
Sound Haven programs are open to NDIS participants with a physical disability or a neurodivergent condition (e.g. ASD, ADHD, ABI, psychosocial disability). All ages are welcome. If you're unsure whether you or your participant is eligible, just get in touch and we'll talk it through.
Do participants need any prior experience?
None. Both programs are designed from the ground up for complete beginners. No musical knowledge, technical background, or prior experience with DJ equipment or music software is required. We meet every participant exactly where they are.
What's the difference between the two programs?
The DJ & Mixing program is a single 10-week course focused on hands-on DJing — using controllers, mixing tracks, and building and performing sets. It's tactile, immediate, and very effective for participants who engage well with physical, hands-on activity.

The Music Production program is structured in 10-week blocks and focuses on creating music from scratch using Ableton Live and FL Studio. It's more compositional and builds deeper technical skills. Block 1 is a complete program on its own. Block 2 is available for those who want to go further.
Are sessions 1:1 or group?
We offer both. 1:1 sessions are completely tailored to the participant — their pace, their goals, their communication style. Group sessions add a social participation dimension and build collaborative and community skills. We'll recommend the best fit during your consultation call.
How does the intake process work?
Sound Haven runs fixed intake rounds throughout the year — programs begin on set dates. When you apply, we'll contact you within 48 hours to discuss availability for the upcoming intake. If you'd like a place, you'll need to confirm and submit required documentation within the timeframe we provide. Places are limited and do not hold indefinitely.
Can I do both programs?
Yes — they complement each other well. Many participants choose to complete both over time. Talk to us about timing and sequencing and we'll help you plan the right pathway.
Is the studio physically accessible?
Yes. Physical accessibility is a non-negotiable requirement for our studio — not an afterthought. Our space is designed to accommodate wheelchair users, mobility aids, and a range of physical needs. If a participant has specific requirements, please tell us during the application process and we'll ensure everything is properly prepared before the first session.
Can a support worker attend sessions?
Yes. Support workers are welcome. When present, sessions may be eligible under Core Supports – Community Participation in addition to Capacity Building categories. Please indicate this on your application form so we can set up the right arrangement.
What if a participant has complex needs?
Our application form captures disability, access, sensory, behavioural, and communication information so we can prepare thoroughly before the first session. For participants with particularly complex medical needs, we may request additional documentation. We'll advise you during the consultation call — nothing is assumed.
What age groups do you work with?
All ages are welcome. Our programs are designed to be relevant and engaging regardless of age. We assess each participant individually — get in touch if you'd like to discuss a specific person's suitability.
How do I apply?
Complete our application form. You can also reach out via the contact page or email soundhavenau@gmail.com if you'd like to have a conversation first. We'll arrange a free consultation call and guide you through the rest of the process.
What documents do I need?
You'll need: (1) a signed letter of support from your NDIS support coordinator confirming you are fit and able to attend the program, and (2) the relevant page of your NDIS plan showing Capacity Building funding with sufficient funds. Both can be uploaded during the application or emailed separately.
I'm a support coordinator referring a participant. What's the process?
Reach out via the contact page or email us. We'll have a short call to discuss the participant's goals, plan, and fit — usually 15 minutes. If it's a match, we'll send the application form and a template for the letter of support. We keep the referral process simple and the communication clear throughout.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is about getting comfortable — introducing the space, the equipment, and each other. We have a relaxed conversation about what the participant wants from the program and do some light hands-on exploration. No pressure to perform or produce anything. Participants often leave the first session surprised by how quickly they take to it.
